I'm a fan of Danish fashion brands! I think Copenhagen is a cosmopolitan city. During the Ciff & Revolver fashion fairs, it's one big party in the streets for me. The Scandinavians have such good taste, and they always have the right style. Fashion comes from Scandinavia. So inspiring and always innovative...
Minimalism
For a very long time, the Danes were known primarily for their minimalism, pure simplicity in a clean atmosphere. This was evident in both their cuts (non-fit and shirt shapes) and their use of color (navy, black, and anthracite).
Often paired with white sneakers and interspersed with nautical stripes. A fashion image we gratefully adopted! With the caveat that the Danes were a bit more daring, for example, by simply wearing the bright white sneakers with black tights. In the Netherlands, except for the true fashionistas, they thought that was a bit odd.
Femininity and fantasy
And then, suddenly, the fashion landscape seems to completely shift, and Scandinavia is all about femininity and fantasy! Gone is minimalism. In comes ruffles, puffed sleeves, pops of color, maxi dresses, Lurex, and leopard print. And I love that again! Mixing and matching these ingredients makes everything even more exciting. The frumpy floral print is becoming hip again thanks to all the leopard prints. The extensive use of Lurex in the fabrics makes your gold accessories stand out beautifully. Wrap shapes in long skirts and dresses. And then paired with colorful, trendy, different sneakers, everything is truly wearable. Even in the schoolyard and at the supermarket! Isn't it a shame to save these great outfits only for parties and cozy dinners? The skirt becomes more edgy with a sweater, and the romantic embroidered blouse goes perfectly with a good pair of vintage jeans.
Civilized
I think Scandinavia has truly put leopard print back on the (fashion) map, but in its own understated way! Because that's what it is for me: truly fashionable, but always understated. And they're doing it again with so many other fashion items: fancy overalls, oversized blazers, paperbag trousers, padded shoulder tops, metallics, and lilac! A style that surprises and immediately captivates you, making you fall in love all over again! It always works for me...
Danish fashion
And of course, I'm not the only fan. Danish fashion is popular in the Netherlands! We're quite similar in height and build, with an almost similar climate. The former is beneficial in terms of fit. Danish fashion always fits us; we never need a size up, sometimes even a smaller one. Because wearing oversized clothes is still a bit of a challenge for us Dutchies. Danish women, on the other hand, have no problem with that at all. A bit of a girly look suits them. The latter means we need the same kinds of things at the same times. This is all in stark contrast to Southern European countries. It's striking that we're very open to Scandinavian fashion influences, while the other way around isn't so much. Scandinavians mainly wear their own brands. While we in the Netherlands also have some very strong brands! But who knows what will happen…❤️
